Emergency Response: Mumps Outbreak

As of March 8, 259 cases of mumps in Spokane County were reported to the Washington State Department of Health. In response to the outbreak, the Washington State University College of Pharmacy chapter of the American Pharmacists Association Academy of Student Pharmacists (APhA-ASP) saw a tremendous need in the community. In collaboration with the Spokane Regional Health District and Walgreens Pharmacies, APhA-ASP hosted numerous vaccination clinics around Spokane County and the outlying rural areas in an effort to increase mumps, influenza, and whooping cough vaccination rates, particularly amongst students, teachers, and individuals with limited access to healthcare.
